Institutional projects whether they be large or small usually have one common denominator, service to the public. Except in the case of new construction most Institutional Design projects require the rendering of architectural services within an existing institution while it is an operating mode, therefore, operational sensitivity is key. AOF is experienced with the kind of obstacles centers of worship, museums, schools, hospitals, government facilities and others face when an existing structure needs retrofitting or change to existing structure while remaining operational.

Category: Institutional Design
Client: Church of the Ascension
Location: Rockville Centre, NY
Project Type: Renovation

Services Provided: Space Planning, Engineering, Architectural and Interior Design, FFE - Furniture Furnishing and Equipment, Lighting Design

Project Highlights: This aging, but beautiful church needed to be retro-fitted to accommodate a new, state-of-the-art pipe organ and sound system. AOF had to engineer a new structural system that would augment the existing structure and support the new wind pipes. In addition, AOF had to determine if the existing church building could support the power and volume of the new organ. And of course the entire renovation needed to be performed while church still served the needs of the congregation.
