Assignment: For the corporate offices of Long Island real estate investment company, Steel Equities, AOF capitalized on and enhanced the indigeneous qualities of a pre-World War II military defense manufacturing facility by capitalizing on the building’s loft area elements of steel and wood. In addition, Steel Equities asked AOF to consider ways to make the narrow orientation of the space progress from public to semi-public to private.

The original wooden ceiling in the main reception area is kept intact as a design element. The office spaces are divided and opened up by an arcade-like traffic corridor defined by columns, above which is introduced a tray ceiling with coved lighting. A metal and glass grid wall system is introduced throughout the office areas to create a feeling of openness and allow transfer of light into the interior zones.
